Glencoe Film Club

ORIGINS:

The Glencoe Film Club started way back in July 1999. It was inspired, in part, by the fact that Imi Weinstein had a large screen TV and that several people

enjoyed films and were interested in finding out more about them. The core group are all ex-members of Betar and of the same vintage as those of this website, or people closely associated such as a spouse orclose friend.

The original presenters are nearly all current and regular attendees. Presenters take it in turns to choose a film. The choice is introduced with an explanation of why it was made and then a discussion may take place afterwards.

Some films generate a considerable amount of discussion and this is one of the great pleasures of being in the club. Some old films stand the test of time very well but others are quite dated. A few films have been followed by stony silence.

Favourite Films - the 10-year survey....

Analysis was done in two different ways: One way was to give first choice a score of 10, second choice a score of 9 and so on. Some thought that this was unfair as it meant that number one choice was being valued as ten times better than number ten choice which had been given only 1 point.

So a second method was used, giving 109 points to the first choice, 108 to second etc. In both methods, all responders choices were given points separately then all points added together. As a few films finished in different places a correlation analysis was done and the result was 0.98 which is extremely high.
